This is the second volume to be published by Garland in a series which will cover all Nobel Laureates (the first is Nobel Laureates in Economic Sciences) . The articles on the recipients are arranged alphabetically, preceded by a chronological list including the 1988 winner, Najib Mahfouz. An introductory chapter describes the life of Alfred Nobel and the history of the prize. The signed articles of three to four pages, written by college faculty, give biographical information on the laureate and a limited amount of critical analysis on the laureate's works.
