WCDMA is a 3G mobile communication standard that uses wideband code division multiple access. A WCDMA network consists of user equipment communicating with NodeBs (base stations) which are controlled by a Radio Network Controller. The RNC handles tasks like call setup, resource management and connects to the core network. WCDMA uses CDMA to separate channels and employs techniques like fast power control, spreading codes and soft handover between NodeBs to improve performance in cellular networks.
