What is Vitreous Anatomy & Vitreoretinal Interface about?

The vitreous gel is a transparent extracellular matrix that fills the eye cavity behind the lens. It is composed primarily of collagen fibrils and glycosaminoglycans in a hydrated gel structure. The vitreous is attached to the retina at the vitreoretinal interface through proteins like laminin and fibronectin. With aging, the vitreous gel begins to liquefy and can separate from the retina, sometimes leading to posterior vitreous detachment.
