The study examines the effect of filter bed depth and solid waste inputs on the performance of small-scale vermicompost filter beds that treat domestic wastewater. Three replicate filter beds were constructed and sampled at different depths over 10 weeks. The study found that solid waste leached oxygen demand into the wastewater as it flowed through the filter beds, and that both nitrification and denitrification occurred within the beds.
