What is CFDST short columns formed from carbon steels about?
Circular concrete-filled double skin tubular (CFDST) columns considerably increase the displacement ductility and peak strength of the sandwiched concrete due to the confinement provided by the steel tubes. This study describes the characteristics of CFDST short columns under compression and investigates the influences of various factors, such as the sandwiched concrete’s thickness, the yield stress of the outer tube, the tube thickness of both the outer and inner components, and the sandwiched concrete’s strength, on the structural performance of CFDST short columns. To obtain the structural behavior of CFDST columns of different cross-sectional types, finite element (FE) analysis is conducted. In this numerical modeling, the choice of the concrete and steel’s material properties is essential. Accordingly, different steel and concrete models are adapted from previous research studies and then verified by comparing their results with the experimental results. The best material models are presented and used in the parametric study, which aims at examining the effects of several factors on the load-displacement relationships in CFDST columns. The results indicate that the infilled co
