Dengue fever is caused by four types of dengue viruses transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. It presents as a sudden onset of fever, severe muscle and joint pains, and sometimes bleeding. While most cases involve recovery, some can develop into a severe form with bleeding throughout the body that can be life-threatening without proper care and treatment. There is currently no vaccine, so prevention focuses on eliminating mosquito breeding sites and using repellents and nets to avoid bites.
