What is EEX Launches CO2 Contracts for Airlines about?

EEX said it would launch futures contracts for EU Aviation Allowances (EUAAs) early in the second quarter and a spot contract by the middle of the year. As of Jan. 1 all airlines touching down or taking off within the EU have to surrender EUAAs, regular EU Allowances or U.N.-backed offsets for each tonne of carbon dioxide they emit when travelling to and from the bloc.
