Laurie Lee died in May 1997, and in the following October a large number of his friends and admirers gathered at St James, Piccadilly, for a tribute to his life and work. Speakers included John Mortimer who worked with him at the Crown Film Unit during the war; the Minister of Education, David Blunkett; fellow-poets Roger McGough and Brian Patten; and Lee's publisher. This handsome book prints the full text of the tributes interwoven with selections from Lee's own work and half-a-dozen photographs, to provide a splendid appreciation of his life. It is published on the first anniversary of his death.
