The CCDHB will launch new adult Early Warning Score (EWS) charts and vital sign charts on September 21, 2015. The current charts were designed before large vital sign datasets were available, so the new charts are based on the National EWS (NEWS) recommended by the Royal College of Physicians, modified for New Zealand. The key changes include scoring 7 parameters instead of 5, different scoring weights for each vital sign, increased thresholds to trigger escalation, and modifications to allow clinicians to
