In recent decades, in response to the need for teaching and learning practices (TLPs) that work well with Indigenous literacy education in Australia, a number of systematic approaches to teaching reading and writing skills have been introduced, examined, and developed in various Indigenous contexts, including schools and institutions with predominantly Indigenous students. Previous studies have explored Australian Indigenous literacy, numeracy, and literate practices from the Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives of biliteracy education, and minority language rights in Australia (see Devlin et al., 2017;Purdie et al., 2011). This ambitious volume goes beyond this by exploring the broader perspective of Indigenous people's connections to literacy practices and how this is approached in various educational contexts.
