## Cloud resource virtualization Virtualization abstracts the underlying physical resources of computer and communication systems and simplifies their use, isolates users from one another, and supports replication, which, in turn, increases system elasticity and reliability. Resource virtualization, the technique analyzed in this chapter, is a ubiquitous alternative to traditional data center operation.
