The poem describes the Charge of the Light Brigade during the Crimean War. In three stanzas, it depicts the 600 soldiers riding into the valley of death toward enemy cannons, knowing that someone had made a mistake in the order but it was their duty to obey. Though surrounded by cannon fire and stormed with shot and shell, the soldiers rode boldly into the jaws of death and mouth of hell with courage and commitment to their mission.
