What is Calcium Hydroxide in Slag Pastes about?
This study examines the effects of calcium hydroxide on the fresh properties of sodium carbonate-activated blast furnace slag pastes. Sodium carbonate is a suitable activator but results in an extended setting time. Replacing sodium carbonate with sodium hydroxide improved rheology but further extended the setting time. The addition of 3% calcium hydroxide significantly decreased the setting time to 6.5 hours by removing carbonate ions from the pore solution. Carbonate ion concentration in the pore solution
