What is Nonviolent Prison Releasee Profile about?

This document provides a statistical profile and analysis of nonviolent offenders exiting state prisons based on two data sources. It finds that the majority were male, under age 34, and racial or ethnic minorities. About two-thirds had a history of drug or alcohol use and over 80% had a prior conviction history. Within 3 years of release, about 70% were rearrested, nearly 50% reconvicted, and over 25% returned to prison.
