What is Usage and Complications of Thoracic Endovascular Repair in Patients with Genetic Aortopathy about?

Objective: Aberrant subclavian artery (ASA) with or without Kommerell diverticulum (KD) is a rare, but high-risk, anatomic anomaly of the aortic arch that can cause dysphagia and/or life-threatening rupture. Patients with ASA/KD can have a left aortic arch (LAA) or less commonly, a right aortic arch (RAA).Methods: Using the Vascular Low Frequency Disease Consortium method, a retrospective review was performed of patients aged $18 years who had undergone surgical treatment of ASA/KD from 2000 to 2019 at 20 institutions. The characteristics and treatment outcomes of the patients with an LAA were compared with those of the patients with an RAA.Results: A total of 173 patients with ASA with or without KD were identified. Of these patients, 144 had had an LAA and 29, an RAA (Table ). The mean age at repair was 54.8 years and 60.5 years for the RAA and LAA patients, respectively (P 1⁄4 .07). More RAA patients had undergone repair because of symptoms than had the LAA patients (79.3% vs 52.8%; P 1⁄4 .01). More patients with an RAA had presented with dysphagia (69.0% vs 43.1%; P 1⁄4 .01). The mean ASA/KD preoperative diameter was 36.9 mm for the RAA group and 30.4 mm for the LAA group (P 1⁄
