What is Alumina Extraction from Zeolite Mud about?

This experiment studied the extraction of alumina from zeolite mud. 2.5 grams of dry mud were mixed with sodium hydroxide solution and heated to form an alumina precipitation, which was separated, washed, dried, and weighed. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis identified the precipitation as alumina. The yield of alumina extracted was 1.15% of the theoretical yield calculated based on the mud composition.
