What is History and Scary Tales of Halloween about?
Halloween celebrates both the lives of the dead and the traditions of the Celts. Over 2,000 years ago, the Celts celebrated Samhain to honor the souls of the dead who visited on October 31st. The Roman Empire later combined Samhain with their holidays. In the 8th century, the Catholic Church established All Saints Day on November 1st. People began dressing in scary costumes on October 31st believing it would scare away spirits. They also left food outside hoping spirits would take it and leave them alone.
