About this document

Introduction to Polymer Engineering Basics by muhammad shahadat awan is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Elastomers and thermosets both have crosslinked polymer chains. This crosslinking is what allows them to retain their shape and prevents melting when heated. The main difference is that elastomers are rubbery and can be stretched reversibly to high extensions, while thermosets harden irreversibly when heated and cannot be remelted or reshaped once cured. Thermosetting polymers are always amorphous because the crosslinking occurs randomly during curing and prevents the chains from organizing into crystall
