This rabbinic saying in bBer 55al postulates, more explicitly than any Tother, the notion of a significant resemblance between a dream and a text. It moreover indicates that if a dream is comparable to a text, then its interpretation can be said to correspond to the act of reading. The analogy to a letter further suggests that the dream might be regarded as a text with a specific intent, a particular addressee, and perhaps even a known author.2 Conversely, if a letter is similar to a dream, the reading of it will in some way be congruous with oneirocritical interpretation.
