What is Geotechnical Soil Types: Sandy vs. Clay about?
Sandy soils contain a high proportion of sand and little clay. They drain quickly, are easy to work with, but tend to dry out in summer and have low nutrients that are washed away by rain. Clay soils contain over 25% clay, hold a high amount of water, drain slowly, take longer to warm up, and dry out and crack in summer. Both sandy and clay soils have advantages and disadvantages for agriculture and development.
