Fingerprints form between 12-16 weeks in utero and are complete by 24 weeks. They are classified into four types: loops, whorls, arches, and composites. Poroscopy examines microscopic pores in fingerprint ridges, with each millimeter containing 9-18 pores, to identify individuals. Fingerprints are not destroyed unless the true skin is completely destroyed, though burns and wounds can add characteristics.
