What is IFC-journal information about?
The cattle on the left: Red Sindhi (syn. Malir, Red Karachi, Sindhi; authentic breed). The exact origins of this breed are unknown, but it is thought that these cattle evolved from local small red hill cattle from Baluchistan (the cradle of zebu cattle). Originally they were herded by the Islamic Maldar. Today the Red Sindhi is mainly found in villages and in the big dairies around Karachi and Hyderabad. Because of its hardiness, heat tolerance and superior milk yields, this breed has spread from the Pakistani state of Sind to many parts of India and to some 33 countries in Africa and Asia. It also provides beef and is a work animal. Original watercolours by Marleen Felius, Cattle Breeds, An Encyclopedia, Misset, Doetinchem (NL), p. 388, 1995. By kind permission of the author.
