A population-based survey in Alicante, Spain, found that breastfed infants exhibited a lower frequency of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) risk factors compared to non-breastfed infants. The study revealed that 86.4% of breastfed infants also practiced bed-sharing, which was associated with lower rates of tobacco and alcohol use among mothers. The findings suggest that families should be educated on SIDS risk factors to promote safe bed-sharing while supporting breastfeeding.
