What is Design and Synthesis of Feasible Reactive Distillation Processes about?
In this paper, a reliable and systematic design method based on the "Static Analysis" is applied to some of the industrial reactive distillation processes. Using this tool. the possible degree of conversion. feasible product regions, and the location and length of the reactive zone can be calculated with minimal information about the physicochemical properties of the reaction mixture and a selected feed composition. The obtained results are used to classify the feed composition region into several subregions. each of which has different product configurations. For each pair of feed subregion and column type (direct or indirect separation). the feasible separation sequence deriving desired products is generated. By summarizing those sequences. all the feasible column configurations for all the feed regions are enumerated. The proposed procedure is applied to the problems of the production of MTBE and the hydrolysis of methyl acetate. A set of feasible separation sequences is derived for each problem. By applying the proposed method. infeasible structures can be eliminated before executing the simulation and almost all of the candidates for optimal structures can be enumerated system
