This study evaluated the effectiveness of a biofilm column and multimedia filtration system for treating rainwater. The system consisted of an upflow fluidized expanded bed reactor filled with granular activated carbon (GAC) to support biofilm growth, and a downstream packed sand bed reactor. The multimedia filter successfully removed over 75% of iron, 62% of sulfate, and over 92% of chemical oxygen demand (COD) from rainwater.
