What is Reviews about?

The Vasudevahin. d.i (VH), the story of Vasudeva the father of Krs.na, forms part of the Jaina tradition of universal history, and as such exists in a number of versions, all but one of which are included in longer stories. The one exception, which is attributed to Sarighadasagani, is also by far the most interesting. Its language shows that, at least in parts, it is older than any other surviving version, and in certain episodes of Vasudeva's picaresque adventures, its manner of constructing an intrigue is surprisingly ingenious. Besides, from time to time it shows a rare and delightful quality of realistic humour. Dr Jain here presents his researches into the VH and other works that have narrative material in common with it.
