What is Physiological studies on a fresh water triclad, Polycelis sapporo. I. Character and rate of reconstitution of transverse pieces in relation to level of body about?

## FORTT-SEVEN FIGURES I n the large body of literature dealing with regeneration of t riclad turbellarians, there is but little information on Polycelis sapporo available. The only data the writer was able to find were Kaburaki's brief descriptions of Beteroniorphic forms found in nature (Kaburaki, '18, '22). I n view of this scantiness of our knowledge of this species, the attempt was made to gain fundamental information regarding reconstitution and to secure a sound basis for further experimental work with this organism. The present paper includes the results of investigations on regenerative capacity, developmental rate and scale of organization in reconstitution of transverse pieces and is particularly concerned with their relation to level of body. Ijima and Kaburaki ( '16) were the first to clcscribe the morphological features of the species, giving it the name of Sorocelis supporo. Recently, on account of the structure of the inner inusculature of the pharpiia, Okugawa ( '38) has proposed transfer of this spceics t o the family of Plnnariidae and change of the genus name into Polycelis. ?Most of the data presented here, like those iii cnrlicr p:ipcrs (Wntan:il~e, 'Jll), c )
