A study of over 127,000 people found that replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats or high-quality carbohydrates was associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. Replacing saturated fats with polyunsaturated fatty acids showed the largest decrease in risk, followed by monounsaturated fats and whole grains. However, replacing saturated fats with refined carbs or added sugars did not reduce risk.
