The fatalities in this report consist of accidents involving construction, maintenance and repair. It includes statistics for all of the fatalities, as well as abstracts and illustrations. From January 1996 through December 1997, 69 miners and contractors died at coal operations. Of the 69 fatalities, 20 fatalities involved construction which contributed to 29 percent of all fatalities during this period
