Multiple drugs Lack of efficacy: case report In a study, a 74-year-old woman was described, who exhibited lack of efficacy during treatment with tigecycline, levofloxacin, meropenem and avibactam/ceftazidime for hypervirulent Klebsiella. pneumoniae infection [routes and dosages not stated].The woman had basic diseases such as hypertension and rheumatoid arthritis. She was diagnosed with invasive Klebsiella. pneumoniae liver abscess syndrome, and then infection lesion kept expanding and eventually developed sepsis. She was infected with hypervirulent Klebsiella. pneumoniae (hvKP12). Therefore, she was kept on antibiotics treatment with tigecycline, levofloxacin, meropenem and avibactam/ceftazidime. However, an antimicrobial susceptibility test identified that hvKP12 was resistant to antibiotics (lack of efficacy). Subsequently, after 24 days of hospitalisation, she died of carbapenem resistant hypervirulent Klebsiella. pneumoniae (CR-hvKP) causing pyemia.
