This document provides an initial report on 1000-hour relaxation tests conducted on prestressing strands that are being used in the Barwa City Housing Project in Doha, Qatar. Samples of 9.3mm and 12.5mm diameter strands from four approved suppliers were tested according to British Standard BS 5896:1980. The strands were subjected to an initial load of 70% of their actual breaking strength and monitored over 1000 hours to ensure relaxation does not exceed 2.5% according to project specifications.
