Between 13th Feb – 11th Mar 2011, 23 days were spent surveying sites with habitat suitable for Sociable Lapwing in northern Syria, the most intensive period since 2007. Only 23 Sociable Lapwings were sighted over 3 days at 3 sites, the lowest total since 2007. Reasons for the low numbers could include late migration from wintering grounds and drought conditions at survey sites.
