Multiple drugs Lack of efficacy: case report A 67-year-old man exhibited lack of efficacy with pantoprazole, clarithromycin, metronidazole, colestyramine and sucralfate for Helicobacter pylori infection or reflux esophagitis [not all routes and dosages stated]. The man was admitted to the hospital with complaints of been able to eat small meals for 2 months and felt fullness. He also reported heartburn and recurrent thin stools. Medical history was significant for a prostatectomy with subsequent radiation due to prostate cancer, and he was on treatment with lisinopril for moderate arterial hypertension. Investigations revealed a positive test for Helicobacter pylori, followed by isolated streaky redness in the rectum, which was most likely considered as radiogenic inflammation. Furthermore, antrum biopsies were used to diagnose a slightly differentiated, diffusely growing adenocarcinoma (grade 3), and to confirm diagnosis of type B gastritis.
