About this document

Gyroscope Mechanism and Applications by Sahil Sharma is a document available to read on EtoBox.

A gyroscope consists of a spinning wheel or disk mounted in two gimbals which allow it to maintain orientation. Gyroscopes are used in ships to minimize rolling and pitching from waves by producing a gyroscopic couple. The gyroscopic couple causes the bow to rise and stern to lower during left turns or the stern to rise and bow to lower in right turns. During pitching, the gyroscopic couple causes the ship to turn toward starboard during upward pitching and toward port during downward pitching.
