The Second Viennese School was a group of early 20th century composers centered around Arnold Schoenberg in Vienna, including his pupils Alban Berg and Anton Webern. Schoenberg developed twelve-tone technique, known as serialism, where a series of all twelve notes is repeated, abandoning traditional tonal harmony. Berg combined serialism with Romantic lyricism.
