Our National Hero Jose Rizal left the country in 1882 to pursue his studies abroad. He studied medicine in Spain and published his first novel Noli Me Tangere in 1887. In 1891, he finished his second novel El Filibusterismo. Later he traveled throughout Europe, studying medicine in France and observing customs in Germany and Belgium as he worked to complete El Filibusterismo and seek reforms for the Philippines.
