This document presents a numerical simulation of the unsteady flow conditions in an elbow draft tube of a reaction turbine. The simulation was performed using the CFD code STAR-CCM+ at three different guide vane openings and four time steps. Performance parameters like head loss, head recovery, efficiency, and relative head loss were calculated from the simulation results. The effect of operating conditions and time step on draft tube performance was studied by comparing the steady and unsteady flow results
