The SMA motor uses five piston sleeves that are carried radially in a cylinder block mounted on an eccentric shaft. Hydraulic fluid under pressure is fed to each piston sleeve in turn, producing a turning moment on the eccentric shaft and eliminating the need for connecting rods. The motor can be configured with a rotating casing or stationary casing, and some models can operate at multiple displacement levels for a wide speed range.
