This study analyzed the incidence of nosocomial infections over a 6-year period in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Spain. A total of 1236 neonates were admitted during this time. 316 nosocomial infections were diagnosed in 226 neonates, with the most common being bacteremia. The overall incidence of nosocomial infection was 25.6%. Risk factors included prematurity, low birth weight, and central catheter use. The most common pathogens were coagulase-negative staphylococci and gram-negative bacteria
