What is Late German Idealism. Trendelenburg & Lotze about?

Reviews/Rezensionen parallels without much in the way of firm historical connections. Positively, this speaks to depth of conceptual analysis; at the same time, clear documentation of these relationships is always exciting. What I find most interesting about the volumes is the way they helpfully position Schleiermacher, not only vis-à-vis well-known American figures, but, in so doing, vis-à-vis key aspects of the American experience: slavery, evolution, modernization, Pragmatism, and civil rights. And I wonder if this observation might not suggest to many others also -whether Schleiermacher scholars, theologians, or scholars of religion in America -that a closer look at the long, ghostly fingers of Schleiermacher's influence in America, beyond the reading of his Speeches and Glaubenslehre, merits a closer look.
