What is Distributed computer systems : theory and practice : Workshop : Selected papers about?

Distributed systems are now in use in a wide range of computer applications and are being considered as a "first candidate" whenever a new application emerges. Although some of the design and implementation principles of such systems have been widely understood and accepted there are still some issues which are subject to current research and likely to influence the next generation of distributed computing systems. The idea behind compiling this book was borne from a workshop which was held in July 1987 at Teesside Polytechnic. The workshop aimed to bring together both theoreticians and practitioners in the field of distributed computing systems. It was decided to present the book as a reference book rather than merely a workshop proceedings. The book is intended for those who are already working in the distributed computing field and for those who have just started, for example MSc and PhD students
