X-rays were first discovered in 1895 in Würzburg, Germany by W.C. Röntgen. The first mammogram was performed in 1913 by German surgeon Albert Solomon. In 1927, German surgeons Otto Kleinschmidt and Erwin Payr described the first mammography technique and its role in early breast cancer detection. Stafford Warren performed the first mammogram in the United States in 1930 for preoperative breast tumor assessment.
