The saros is a period of approximately 223 synodic months (18 years 11 days 8 hours) that can be used to predict eclipses of the Sun and Moon. After one saros period, the geometry of the Sun, Earth and Moon will be nearly identical, resulting in a similar eclipse. Eclipses within the same saros series will be separated by one saros period and will follow the same path on Earth.
