Muhammad bin Yaqub al-Kulayni was a prominent Shiite scholar who compiled the famous hadith collection Al-Kafi. He was born in Kulayn, Iran and given the title "Thiqat al-Islam" due to his piety and religious knowledge. Al-Kulayni travelled for 20 years to collect ahadith which he compiled into Al-Kafi, considered the most authentic hadith collection for Shiites.
