Aminoglycosides are a group of bactericidal antibiotics obtained from Streptomyces bacteria. They include streptomycin, neomycin, kanamycin, amikacin, gentamicin, tobramycin, and sisomicin. Aminoglycosides are mainly used against gram-negative enteric bacteria, especially in bacteremia and sepsis. They are also used in combination with other antibiotics like vancomycin or penicillin for infections like endocarditis and tuberculosis.
