There are several main types of rebar: European rebar is the least resistant to bending but also the cheapest. It should not be used in seismic areas or for structures requiring high integrity. Carbon steel rebar (black bar) is the most commonly used but corrodes easily when exposed to water or humidity. Epoxy-coated rebar has the tensile strength of carbon steel but is more corrosion resistant, though the epoxy coating can be easily damaged. Galvanized rebar is more corrosion resistant than carbon steel
