About this document
Superhetrodyne Receiver Overview by Five STAR is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Superheterodyne receivers work by converting all incoming signals to a lower intermediate frequency (IF) where amplification and selectivity can be achieved more easily. The mixer produces this frequency translation by mixing the incoming signal with a local oscillator (LO) signal. Most of the gain and selectivity is obtained in the IF amplifier stage. The purpose of the automatic gain control (AGC) is to help maintain a constant output voltage level over a wide range of RF input signal strengths.
