A Primary Refresh Token (PRT) is a JSON Web Token issued to Microsoft token brokers like the Web Account Manager on Windows devices to enable single sign-on across applications. A PRT contains claims including a device ID and session key. It is issued during user authentication on Azure AD joined devices and renewed every 4 hours or during application token requests to keep the 14 day lifetime. PRTs allow tokens to be requested silently to provide single sign-on functionality on Windows.
