What is History and Rules of Shot Put about?
The shot put is a track and field event where competitors push a heavy metal ball as far as possible from inside a circle. Men have competed in shot put at the Olympics since 1896 and women have participated since 1948. There are two main techniques used - the glide, where the athlete spins across the circle, and the spin, where they rotate like a discus thrower. Competitions involve multiple rounds and the competitor who throws the furthest distance wins.
