Sergei Magnitsky, a Russian lawyer, testified against Russian Interior Ministry officers who were involved in stealing $230 million from the Russian government. In response, those same officers had Magnitsky arrested and held for 358 days where he was subjected to intense physical and psychological pressure. Despite condemnation from international organizations, Magnitsky died in custody without ever being convicted of any crime.
